The Joint PhD Seminars of the University of Milano-Bicocca present a compelling series of talks where doctoral candidates from diverse scientific disciplines come together to share and discuss their cutting-edge research activities. These seminars are a testament to the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration, meticulously organised by the doctoral students from the Departments of Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy. They serve as an intellectual melting pot, fostering an environment where innovative ideas and methodologies can be exchanged across departmental lines.

For the 2023 edition of these seminars, the discussions were enriched by the contribution of SMART-electron PhD candidate Beatrice Matilde Ferrari. Her talk, entitled “Capturing the Speed of Nature: Insights into Ultrafast Transmission Electron Microscopy Across Scientific Fields,” delved into the dynamic realm of ultrafast transmission electron microscopy (UTEM). Ms. Ferrari’s presentation offered a deep dive into the world of ultrafast phenomena, showcasing how cutting-edge UTEM techniques are unlocking new possibilities for observing and understanding rapid processes that occur at the atomic and molecular levels.
