The Joint PhD Seminars of the University of Milano-Bicocca present a compelling series of talks where doctoral candidates from diverse scientific disciplines come together to share and discuss their cutting-edge research activities. These seminars are a testament to the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration, meticulously organised by the doctoral students from the Departments of Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy. For the 2023 edition of these seminars, the discussions were enriched by the contribution of SMART-electron PhD candidate Beatrice Matilde Ferrari. Her talk, entitled “Capturing the Speed of Nature: Insights into Ultrafast Transmission Electron Microscopy Across Scientific Fields,” delved into the dynamic realm of ultrafast transmission electron microscopy (UTEM). Ms. Ferrari’s presentation offered a deep dive into the world of ultrafast phenomena, showcasing how cutting-edge UTEM techniques are unlocking new possibilities for observing and understanding rapid processes that occur at the atomic and molecular levels.
